In just a week’s time, the 2nd Annual Study of Effective Legal Spend Management from Exterro and the Blickstein Group will be released. For in-house legal departments—and specifically for e-discovery professionals—the news is good.

Judging by an early peek at the data in the Blickstein Group/Exterro study, we can safely say that in-house legal departments are feeling bullish about their prospects.

Some highlights include:

  • Legal departments reporting budget growth outnumber those reporting decreases by 2:1
  • Legal departments reporting inside spend growth outnumber those reporting decreases by almost 4:1

Making the case for internal investments that yield long-term rewards (like, say, e-discovery technology) should be easier now than it has been in the recent past, as competing enterprises are likely doing the same.
