ModeOne Technologies Awarded New US Patent for Remote, Automated Collection of Data from Smartphones

ModeOne Technologies, Inc. (“ModeOne”), the developer of a revolutionary SaaS tool to help litigation services providers, law firms, corporations, government entities, and law enforcement agencies automate the remote collection and analysis of mobile data stored on smartphones, announced today (April 5, 2022) that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued the company a patent covering a system and method for receiving, analyzing, and organizing data stored on a mobile communication device (e.g., text messages, phone logs, photos, social media data, etc.) and presenting that data in a user-friendly fashion. The invention (US Patent No. 11,301,529) enables mobile data to be searchable and allows individual records to be presented in context, which may involve displaying related records within a single application and/or among different applications.

As more people use Apple and Android smartphones to communicate both professionally and personally, the Mobile Phone Discovery (MPD) industry has grown materially. For example, it was estimated that in 2018 over $10B was spent on eDiscovery software and services, and by the year 2023 this number is expected to exceed $23B. This dramatic sector growth is expected from several sources, including the rising cost of developing new technologies, global market expansion, and the proliferation of mobile communication devices in use.

“We commenced development of our SaaS framework several years ago in response to the legal profession’s need for an efficient and cost-effective process for mobile data collection that addresses limitations with traditional discovery software,” said Matt Rasmussen, ModeOne’s founder, CEO, and president. “In particular, there is a need for scalable software that can receive, analyze, organize, and present data stored on mobile communication devices. There is also a need to present such data in a user-friendly manner, allowing reviewers to easily navigate, annotate, and provide context to individual records. We are excited about the potential of our unique response to evolving market needs.”
