Perhaps the biggest obstacle preventing attorneys from using modern technology in their eDiscovery practice is they simply don’t realize what exists and is currently available. With hundreds of eDiscovery providers entering the market, it can be a little overwhelming to research which services would be best for the case at hand. This tends to result in simply using the same provider that was retained for a previous case. Little or no thought is given about what features are needed for the current case or whether there is a more affordable option.

Fortunately, there are resources to help attorneys quickly get up to speed. The 2018 eDiscovery Buyers Guide by Brett Burney and Chelsey Lambert gives a great overview of what is available right now. It provides a nice summary of services throughout the eDiscovery process, such as tools for:

  • Case analysis and chronologies,
  • Capturing and collecting data, including social media,
  • Processing and reviewing the data, and
  • Using artificial intelligence and data analysis at different stages of the process.
