A short percentage-based assessment of the qualitative benefit of the recent media release by the Nordic Institute for Interoperability Solutions on X-Road and the Digital Public Goods Standard.

Editor’s Note: X-Road® is open-source software and ecosystem solution that provides unified and secure data exchange between organizations. X-Road is released under the MIT open source license and is available free of charge. Specifically, X-Road implements a set of standard features to support and facilitate data exchange and ensures confidentiality, integrity, and interoperability between data exchange parties. The basic idea of X-Road is that information systems do not exchange data directly with each other. Instead, information systems are connected through additional, standardized access points (Security Server) that implement the same technical specifications and therefore, can communicate with each other. Recently the Nordic Institute for Interoperability Solutions (NIIS) highlighted the alignment of X-Road with the Digital Public Goods Standard. The Digital Public Goods Standard is a set of specifications and guidelines designed to maximize consensus about whether something conforms to the definition of digital public goods laid out by the UN Secretary General in the 2020 Roadmap to Digital Cooperation. Given the importance of secure data exchange in eDiscovery, the information and references within the recent NIIS media release may be beneficial and instructive for legal, IT, and business professionals.

X-Road® has been reviewed by the Digital Public Goods Alliance (DPGA) and found to be a digital public good in alignment with the Digital Public Goods Standard.

The Digital Public Goods Standard is a set of specifications and guidelines designed to maximize consensus about whether something conforms to the definition of digital public goods laid out by the UN Secretary-General in the 2020 Roadmap to Digital Cooperation.

X-Road now appears in the digital public goods registry where it will be discoverable as a digital public good and reflected on a growing network of catalogues and aggregated lists of digital public goods.

Besides, X-Road has been identified by the DPGA Financial Inclusion Community of Practice as one of seven key projects at the critical intersection of digital public goods (DPGs) and digital public infrastructures (DPIs).

X-Road is open-source software and ecosystem solution that provides unified and secure data exchange between organizations. X-Road is released under the MIT open source license and is available free of charge.
