Press Announcement

Law company Elevate today [January 25, 2019] announced it has acquired Cognatio Law, a Hong Kong-based flexible lawyering and legal consulting business serving in-house legal and compliance teams as well as law firms across Asia Pacific. Cognatio will integrate its operations into Elevate’s business, which provides consulting, technology, tech-enabled managed services and flexible lawyering support to the legal sector globally. This move expands Elevate’s reach and local expertise in Hong Kong and Singapore, building upon the company’s operations that already serve customers on four continents.

Cognatio joins a growing list of leading law companies acquired by Elevate in the past three months, including legal AI technology and consultancy LexPredict, contract lifecycle management (CLM) provider Sumati Group, UK NewLaw legal resourcing firm Halebury, and Yerra Solutions, a law company providing consulting, technology and managed services. Elevate’s global team of 1,200, fluent in over 20 languages, serves customers from locations throughout North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.

“Cognatio is a key element of our strategic growth plan,” explains Elevate CEO Lokendra Tomar. “Our customers tell us they want consulting, technology, and tech‑enabled services from a single provider with a global footprint and deep experience in each regional market. Cognatio’s experience in Hong Kong and Singapore, especially with flexible lawyering, will enable us to better serve customers in Asia.”

Lesley Hobbs, Founder and CEO of Cognatio, says, “We are delighted to join Elevate. As the Hong Kong flexible legal services market continues to grow, we believe joining forces with a full-service global provider like Elevate is the best way to reach more in-house legal teams and law firms that need support on legal, compliance and risk matters, including global financial institutions and multi‑nationals with operations across Asia Pacific.”

A (Brand) New Approach? Considering the Framework and Structure of eDiscovery Offerings

Today’s eDiscovery providers may benefit from the lessons learned in the creation of the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album by creating a concept for branding and packaging their offerings within that brand in a connected, theme-based way that represents the offerings’ promise and capability in a way that is easy to understand and remember.

This fictionalized branding approach was developed from the intellectual exercise of trying to figure out a reasonable and memorable way to descriptively highlight the promise and capabilities of offerings typically delivered by full-service eDiscovery providers. It may not be completely comprehensive or fully normalized. However, the hope of sharing this branding example is that it might help those involved in the branding and communication of eDiscovery provider services and solutions.
