Lawyers and technologists face many challenges from the proliferation of Big Data, one of the most pressing is data privacy. Governments and businesses collect massive amounts and many types of data in ways seemingly unimaginable just a few years ago.
Technologists have done better than lawyers and legislators in managing Big Data. Sure, technologists have been at the helm during infamous data privacy breaches, but data privacy legislation and regulation have been contentious battles around the world. Cultural, economic, legal and political pressures have turned privacy protection into somewhat of a global mess.
